Children's Privacy Policy

Effective September 4, 2020

The Mastery Portfolio online school records management platform, website, mobile application and related services (the “Services”) are operated by Mastery Portfolio, LLC, located at 835 Euclaire Avenue, Columbus, OH 43209 (“Mastery Portfolio”).  Mastery Portfolio takes the private nature of children’s personal information very seriously. This Children’s Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use and disclose the personal information from your children when they use the Services.  This Privacy Policy applies only to information collected by Mastery Portfolio through the Services. Please read this notice very carefully.

Parental Consent

We require consent from a parent or guardian before we collect personal information from children under 13 years of age. Personal information is only collected from a child under thirteen years of age after a parent or guardian has provided permission to the child’s teacher or school administrator for the child to access the Mastery Portfolio Services. By granting permission and allowing your child to log on to the Services you are consenting to the collection, use and disclosure of your child’s personal information as provided herein. Your child is not permitted to use the Services without your direct consent and guidance. We require that you assist your child in using the Services so that you may monitor the personal information that they are disclosing.

The Personal Information We Collect

Your child’s teacher or school administrator has provided Mastery Portfolio with your child’s name, account information, school record information and other similar information in order to use the Mastery Portfolio platform to manage your child’s records.

If your child logs on and accesses their Mastery Portfolio account, they may use the Services to send direct messages to their teachers or other administrators.  The content of messages your child sends is in their sole discretion and we recommend you inform your child about the type of information they should be sharing with their teachers.  If your child is accessing the platform on a mobile device, your child may also choose to provide location data.

Mastery Portfolio collects such information only insofar as is necessary to grant your child access to the Mastery Portfolio features and services.

If you believe your child may have submitted personal information to Mastery Portfolio without your permission or consent, please contact us via email at privacy@masteryportfolio.com and we will delete the information.

Public Posting

Your child may have the option to post or upload additional information, such as videos, photos or other content (“User Content”) to publicly available portions of the Services.  User Content your child posts on a public forum or makes publicly available will be available to other users of the Website and may be retrievable by third party search engines.  Third parties may also be able to download or share your User Content to social media sites such as Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, Google+ as well as via email. You are required to directly approve any information that your child uploads to publicly available portions of the Services.   Aside from your child’s image in a photograph or video, your child is not permitted to post any personal information on publicly available portions of the Services.

Website Access Information and Use of Cookies

Like most website operators, Mastery Portfolio collects non-personally-identifying information of the sort that web browsers and servers typically make available, such as the browser type, language preference, referring site, and the date and time of each visitor request. Mastery Portfolio ’s purpose in collecting non-personally identifying information is to better understand how Mastery Portfolio ’s visitors use its Services.  From time to time, Mastery Portfolio may release non-personally-identifying information in the aggregate, e.g., by publishing a report on trends in the usage of its Website. Mastery Portfolio also collects potentially personally-identifying information like Internet Protocol (IP) addresses and may collect statistics about the behavior of visitors to the Website. For instance, Mastery Portfolio may monitor the Website to help identify spam.

Like many websites, the Website may use “cookies” to collect information. A cookie is a string of information that a website stores on a visitor’s computer, and that the visitor’s browser provides to the website each time the visitor returns. Mastery Portfolio may use cookies to help identify and track visitors, their usage of the Website, and their Website access preferences. Website visitors who do not wish to have cookies placed on their computers should set their browsers to refuse cookies before using the Website, with the drawback that certain features of Website may not function properly without the aid of cookies.
